Privacy Policy

Read Aloud Player ("the extension", "we", "us") is a Chrome extension by 108 that lets you replay, control and save the audio that ChatGPT's own Read Aloud feature plays in your browser. This policy explains exactly what the extension and its license service handle. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI.
1. Data that stays on your device
When you press Read Aloud on a ChatGPT answer, ChatGPT sends the audio to your browser. The extension keeps a copy of that audio locally so you can replay it. Stored in your browser only (Chrome extension storage and IndexedDB):
- the audio file and its length and size;
- a short text snippet of the answer, used as its title, and any title you type;
- the ChatGPT conversation and message identifiers, used to open the original chat and to avoid duplicates;
- playback position, favorites, settings (speed, language, appearance) and the daily download counter.
Free users may also have the most recent unsaved recording kept for up to 30 minutes so it can still be downloaded. None of this is sent to us or anyone else. Uninstalling the extension deletes it; you can export a backup file yourself before that.
2. What the extension does not do
- It does not read your ChatGPT password, cookies or account settings, and it does not make requests to OpenAI on your behalf.
- It does not send your conversations, the text of answers or the audio to us or any third party.
- It does not use the microphone, record your screen, show ads or sell or share data for advertising.
3. Data our license service receives
| Data | Why | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| Random install ID (created by the extension, not linked to your identity) | Sent when the extension checks whether Pro is active on this browser | Free users: not stored by us (only looked up). Pro users: kept while the browser is linked to a license |
| License key, plan, status, renewal date, linked install IDs (max 3) | To provide Pro and let you activate it on another browser | For the life of the license and as required for accounting |
| Payment provider customer and subscription identifiers | To match payments to your license and open the billing portal | For the life of the license |
| Your IP address and browser user agent | Received with every request to our service (license checks, configuration, checkout), as with any website; used to deliver the response and to rate-limit license activations, checkout pages and error reports | Not stored by us, except as a rate-limit counter for up to 2 hours (activation, checkout, billing portal, restore by email, error reports; kept as a keyed hash of the address, or of its /64 block for IPv6, never the raw value). Our host, Cloudflare, may keep standard request logs for a short period |
| Error counts (optional, off by default) | If you turn on "Send anonymous error counts", once a day the extension sends its version number and how many times each type of capture error happened. No titles, text, audio, IDs or URLs. | 30 days, as daily totals |
The extension also downloads a small signed configuration file from our server (to keep working when ChatGPT changes its page). This request carries no identifier from the extension; like any web request it reveals your IP address to our host.
4. Payments
Payments are processed by our payment provider, which is named at checkout and on your receipt. Your card details go directly to that provider and are never seen or stored by us. The provider gives us your email address and payment status so we can deliver your license, send receipts and send one reminder email before a free trial ends (sent through our email provider, Resend). The provider's own privacy policy is linked at checkout.
If you use Restore by email (lost key or new computer), the email address you type is used once to look up your purchase with our payment provider and, if there is an active one, to send a one-time code through Resend. The email also says when the request was made, from which kind of browser (for example Chrome on Windows) and the approximate city and country of the request, so you can tell whether it was you. We do not store that address, the code is kept only as a hash for 15 minutes, and we never send your license key by email.
5. Service providers
Cloudflare (hosting of this website and the license service), our payment provider (named at checkout), Resend (transactional email). They process data only to provide these services to us.
6. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
We process license and billing data to perform our contract with you (providing Pro), IP addresses for our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and available, optional error counts on your consent (you can withdraw it in Settings), and payment records to meet legal obligations.
7. International transfers
Our providers (Cloudflare, our payment provider, Resend) may process data in the United States and other countries. They rely on recognised safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
8. Your choices and rights
- Delete any recording in the extension, or uninstall it to remove all local data.
- Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your data, object to processing, and complain to your local data protection authority. California residents: we do not sell or share personal information.
- Turn error counts on or off in Settings at any time.
- To access, correct or delete license or billing data we hold, email founder@108map.com. We may need to keep payment records where the law requires it.
9. Security and retention
Connections to our service use HTTPS. Secrets for payments and email are stored only on the server, never in the extension. We keep license data only as long as needed for the purposes above.
10. Children
The extension is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
11. Changes
We will update this page if what we handle changes, and change the date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the extension's release notes.
12. Contact (data controller)

Our handling of data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements: data is used only to provide the extension's features described here.
